Prevention, Intervention, Response, and Recovery
The Cambridge Public School Department strives to provide a safe, welcoming, and enriching environment for all students. This requires a focus on more than the academic aspects of school. Many agencies in Cambridge work together so that students and their families will have the resources they need to be safe and supported in their daily lives – before, during and after the school day. Some of this work is preventive, encompassing school climate, community building and social/emotional learning. Some of the work involves intervening in or responding to issues or crises as they occur.

Responding to Emergencies
We have implemented a program that includes safety and security audits, development of emergency plans and procedures, and training for staff when they respond to incidents. This program has been developed with the assistance of our community partners--Cambridge Police, Cambridge Fire Department, and the Cambridge Health Alliance. We are grateful for their contributions.
Preparedness begins at home, so this website provides information for parents, guardians, and students. We encourage every family to develop a family preparedness plan. It is also essential that parents become familiar with Cambridge Public Schools' emergency plan and ensure that the emergency information on file with your child's school is up to date. Parents and guardians should check out the resources page to find resources that may help address problems or challenges your child may experience.
Emergency procedures have been distributed to every classroom. Training is also provided during scheduled faculty meetings. Teachers should review the information provided and place their class roster in the back pocket. Be sure you know how to call for help.
