Kristen von Hoffmann was hired in November 2010 to be the Cambridge Public School District’s first Sustainability Manager. Kristen is in her seventh year living in Cambridge. She moved here a few weeks after graduating from Yale University in 2006, and feels a strong connection with the City of Cambridge and the sustainability issues currently facing the school department. Kristen taught elementary school for 4 years in the Boston-area, and also founded Greenfox Schools, a 501(c)3 non-profit that specializes in sustainability programming for schools. Kristen is currently serving her third year on the K-12 Steering Committee for the U.S. Partnership for Education for Sustainable Development, a United Nations Compact. In May 2010, she was invited by the United States government to contribute as an ambassador to the Transformative Education Forum at the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland. She is thrilled to be implementing the Cambridge Green Schools Initiative (CGSI) for the Cambridge Public School Department and to be overseeing sustainability operations for the school district.
